10 Steps to Peak Performance
  1. Get familiar with the 2 Key Questions:

Who am I?
What am I here for?

  1. Ask yourself the 2 Key Questions frequently:
    To uncover the "cosmic" truth:

         What am I here on this planet for?
         What's my passion?
         What do I want to be remembered for?

    To make practical the "minute-to-minute" truth:

         What's my primary role right this minute?

              (CEO? Manager? Athlete? Parent?)
         What am I here for right this minute?
         What do I need to do right now?

  2. Specify three major goals that you have for yourself.  Get clear on why these specific goals are important for you.

    What do I want to accomplish in my lifetime?
    What do I commit to do by the end of this coming year?

    Check to see if your long-term goals are in synch with your short-term goals.  If you are not reaching a specific goal, it may be because it is not in agreement with your long-term goals and your basic values.  Look for the threads that will strengthen your motivation.

  3. Know your strengths.  Recognize your abilities:

    Make a list right now of what you appreciate about yourself.  There is no one else in the world like you:  what makes you uniquely you?  If you don't list at least 10 positive qualities, you're not looking hard enough - or you need to get to work to develop more skills and abilities to attain the particular goals that you are after.

  4. Know your weaknesses.  Recognize where you need to grow.

    List 4 ways that you need to grow - professionally and personally.  Time management?  Clearer long-range planning?  Communication with others?  Attention to details?  Attention to the big picture?  Know where you need to change your behavior.  Decide how you will do it.  Do it.

  5. Make a specific plan to target your #1 goal for this month.  Make it a SMART Goal:

         S = specific
         M = measurable
         A = attainable
         R = realistic
         T = time-bound

    Write down the specifics for your S-M-A-R-T goal. Go for it!

  6. Use your strengths.

    Identify the major strengths that you already have which will help you attain this goal.  Write down the strengths, harness them, sharpen them in service of this particular goal.

  7. Deal with your weaknesses in a pro-active way.

    Identify areas where you may need more knowledge, more will-power, more discipline, more outside support.  Get it.

  8. When you fall down or get off goal, use the experience to clarify your vision and increase your determination.

    Mistakes and failures are opportunities waiting to be discovered and used.

  9. Catch yourself doing something right - every day.  Celebrate your victories, large and small.

    At the end of each day, scan your progress.  Note where you slipped, where you moved ahead, and where you could have moved ahead even more.  Honor your progress.  Sharpen your motivation.  Set your specific plan for tomorrow.  Dream big dreams.  Sleep well.
